Gorilla – Habitat fragmentation and destruction – Endangered species

In 1945, Louis Gallet created the mold for his sculpture Gorilla, which was subsequently cast in bronze in 1984. Copper and tin are the main components of the bronze metal alloy, a material used since ancient times for creating sculptures. Realistic in style, the sculpture depicts a male gorilla with a furrowed brow, recognizable by the crest on his head and his imposing musculature. The sculpture was created following direct observation of the gorilla Mock, a captive at the London Zoo. Now located in the Museum Park, Gorilla can serve as an educational tool and a subject for reflection. The various gorilla species are vulnerable and endangered due to the destruction and fragmentation of their habitat, poaching, and disease.
