Sculpture d'animaux « Arbrimaux »

Sylvio Asseo is an animal sculptor whose studio is located in Puplinge. His work combines craftsmanship and artistry with an ecological and sensitive approach, giving new life to the many trees of the Franco-Geneva region. The sculpture “Arbrimaux” was created in 1996 following a public commission from the municipality of Chêne-Bougeries by the Fonds de décoration, formerly the Fonds municipal d’art contemporain (FMAC). Installed in Parc Stagni, this monumental work (4.80 m) is carved and sculpted from a sequoia trunk. The artist has carved three bears, a squirrel, and an eagle directly from the trunk itself. Destined for the logging yard, the redwood is thus given new life and transformed into a work of public art. For Sylvio Asseo, this approach is essential: it gives a second life to the trunks he carves, symbolizing continuity and thus preserving the memory of the trees that are gone. Through his sculptures, he invites us to take a fresh look at trees.
