Mineral Fruit I

The work Mineral Fruit I was presented at the 9th edition of the Matériau et immatériel event in 1997, organized at Parc Stagni in collaboration with MAMCO. Created by Vincent Du Bois, the sculpture is part of a reflection on a return to materiality. Crafted from coral-red granite, it reflects the practice of the artist, who specializes in stone carving, and explores the relationship between materiality and abstraction. His work revolves primarily around two themes: our relationship to the unknown and fundamental mysteries, and a critical observation of societal changes, centered on our connections to the environment and digital technologies. In Mineral Fruit I, the artist creates a dialogue between the permanence of stone and the fluidity of contemporary technologies through a layered treatment of the sculpture, evoking a “glitch” effect: the stone appears fragmented, as if altered by a digital process. Now installed in Parc du Vallon, the work invites us to reflect on the place of matter in a constantly changing world.
