Animals as a resource? Perspectives from farmers and artists - Roundtable

Sat, Nov 29, 2025, 5 – 6:30 PM

A discussion at Villa du Parc (Annemasse) between Virginia Markus and the duo Soizic Vauclin and Stéphane Baud, two farmers in transition. Moderated by Soya the Cow and Bernard Vienat, bringing together agricultural stories and artistic perspectives.

By opening up a discussion on the status of animals and their place in our societies, it creates a space for dialogue between farming experiences, militant activism, and artistic perspectives. Virginia Markus presents her work with Co&xister: supporting farmers in their transition and developing sanctuaries that invent a different relationship with animals. Soizic Vauclin and Stéphane Baud talk about their transition processes, whether it be a shift towards agriculture based on cohabitation with animals or a break with livestock farming and the creation of a plant-based bakery.

Their stories raise essential questions: how can we transform our relationship with agricultural resources? What concrete alternatives to the industrial model can emerge?

The discussion, moderated by Bernard Vienat and Soya the Cow, places these experiences in an artistic context. The presence of Soya the Cow, a hybrid figure between art, activism, and performance, brings to light a contemporary perspective on animals: neither resource nor object, but partners in life. Art becomes a tool for thought and sensitivity that enriches our understanding of rural realities.
